PSC welcomes Marriott

Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) Ramesh Dookhoo said on Tuesday that the entry of the Marriott Hotel into Guyana will yield many benefits.

Responding to a question during a press conference, he said that a Marriott Guyana would drive the tourism and hospitality sector. “I believe benefits will trickle down to many of the other services that exist in the tourism sector,” he said, while adding that a world class brand will be available here.

“We (the PSC) are very happy with the entry of Marriot into Guyana,” he stressed.

On Sunday, the sod turning ceremony for the long-awaited and controversial Marriott Guyana Georgetown hotel was held in Kingston. It was disclosed that a Chinese company will be constructing the US$51M edifice at the back of the National Centre for Education Resource Development.

The dimension of the land is 6.88 acres (299,692.8 square feet). When completed, the hotel will employ about 250 persons.
