Bourne to stand trial for 2010 Cool Square Bar murder

Junior Bourne was committed yesterday to stand trial in the High Court for the 2010 Cool Square Bar murder of Canada-based Guyanese  Rawle Harding.

The ruling was read by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The magistrate said that there was enough evidence for Bourne to stand trial. During the PI, eighteen witnesses took the stand and gave evidence.

The mother of the accused  who was very emotional after the ruling immediately exited the courtroom while telling her son that “everything is gonna be alright.”

Harding, who was staying at his sister’s Lot 292 Lamaha Springs home, was shot while resisting gunmen at Cool Square Bar in West Ruimveldt.

The incident occurred around 11.20 pm on March 3, 2010 when Harding, along with his cousin Clarence Roberts, 56, and a taxi driver were at the bar. Two men entered and purchased beverages.

They then brandished guns and confronted Harding and his cousin and one of them held on to a gold chain that Harding was wearing. When Harding resisted, he was shot in the abdomen.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital  where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
According to reports, Harding arrived in Guyana on February 17, 2010 after attending carnival in Trinidad.
