Bajan fishermen jailed in T&T

(Barbados Nation) Ten Barbadian fishermen are paying the price for straying into Tobago waters. They are spending this weekend in Tobago prison cells after that island’s coast guard swooped down on four vessels Friday evening.

The crew members on board the vessels Dove IV, Leah-Lyn II and Nathalie were held by Tobago Coast Guard officials, just north off Castara between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Nathalie is captained by Everton Brathwaite of Rices, St Philip; Dove IV’s captain is Clement Standard of St John; and that of Leah-Lyn II is John Walcott of Christ Church.

A fourth Barbadian vessel, Count The Cost, ran into difficulties just off Buccoo Reef and that led to the involvement of coast guard officials who were conducting narcotics operations and fishing protection patrols when they received the distress call.
