Victim and relative nab suspect and getaway car

Police said in a press release yesterday that a man, who turned up at the Golden Grove Police Station saying that he had been earlier attacked and robbed of the getaway car, has also been detained.

Police officials told this newspaper last night that both men remain in police custody as investigators try to capture all the details of the armed robbery.

According to the release, about 18:15 hrs Raphael Bagot, 25, of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was in his motor vehicle which was parked at Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara, when he was held up by a man armed with a firearm who took $1.5 million from the vehicle and escaped in a waiting motor car.

A relative of Bagot, the release said, came up shortly after and they gave chase behind the getaway vehicle PLL 7395 and caught up with it at Second Street, Craig, EBD. They managed to apprehend the suspect while three other men who were in the vehicle escaped.

The suspect was handed over to the police who also detained the motor car used by the perpetrators.
