South Sophia man accused of robbery

Magistrate Sueanna Lovell granted a South Sophia man accused of robbery $100,000 bail when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge.

Devon Gonsalves, a father of one of 571 South Sophia is accused of robbing Rosana Gordon of a quantity of gold jewellery worth $150,000 on November 5 at Croal Street, Stabroek. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The court head that on the said day, the virtual complainant (VC) was walking along the pavement on Croal Street when the accused and two others circled her, told her not to scream or run or they would kill her.  They then allegedly relieved her of the jewellery and made good their escape.
The matter was reported and on December 3, the VC saw the defendant on the street and alerted the police. Gonsalves was arrested and charged.
The prosecution did not object to bail.

Gonsalves was ordered to return to court on January 31.
