A fisherman yesterday appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge of break and enter and larceny.
The particular of the charge is that between December 6 and December 7, at Georgetown, Christopher Gomes, 39, of Lot 26 Hill Street, Albouystown, broke into the dwelling place of Nurine Kadir and stole items valued $245,000. The man pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him.
According to the police, on the day in question Kadir was asleep when she was awakened by a strange noise, which was projecting from her yard. As a result, the woman looked through her window and the accused was seen standing under her house. The prosecutor further related that Kadir immediately made checks and the items were discovered missing.
Gomes was remanded to prison after the prosecution objected to bail, while noting that he is a repeat offender and that if granted bail it is likely that he would not return to court.
The matter was adjourned until January 6, 2012.
