Probe into Wakenaam mother’s death still ongoing

Almost five months after Wakenaam resident Jasoda Lloyd succumbed following a stillbirth delivery, the investigation into the circumstances leading to her death is still ongoing.

According to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shamdeo Persaud, the investigating committee will be convening shortly to discuss and further investigate the matter.

Persaud told Stabroek News that investigations into stillbirth deaths usually take a while, as medical officials and those conducting the investigation have to go through a number of things, such as visiting the area in which the mother lived to find out if the environment was safe enough, and meeting with medical practitioners, among other things.

He said also that 42 days following the mother’s death, an autopsy has to be conducted and an expert also has to be consulted and make his/her input into the matter.

On the night of July 26 of this year, Lloyd, 26, took ill unexpectedly while at home with her husband, Deo Kumar, at Free and Easy, Wakenaam.

As a result, she had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she delivered the stillborn baby and later succumbed. Kumar had related that upon visiting the hospital that fateful night, he was informed by medical personnel that his wife’s kidneys had failed her.
An investigation was launched into the death in August.
