T&T woman stabbed to death in car park

(Trinidad Express) A 23-year-old female employee of Playdium Games Centre and Restaurant in San Fernando was stabbed to death yesterday while returning to work from her lunch break.

According to police reports, Ayanna Phillip was walking back to her workplace at around 2.15 p.m. with a male companion when a heated argument between them took place.

The man pulled out a kitchen knife, approximately ten inches long, and stabbed Phillip several times about in her chest and stomach.

Phillip died a at the scene at the car park between Ma Pau and Club Maracas (formerly Sting nightclub), South Trunk Road, La Romaine. Phillip lived at Byron Street in La Romaine.

Playdium was closed for business after the incident and patrons were advised to leave the premises.

Anand Ramnarinesingh, owner of Playdium described Phillip as an honest and hardworking employee.

Ramnarinesingh, who visited his business place after the killing took place, said the employees were in shock and he decided to close the place out of respect for Phillip.

“She was a very good worker. I think it was a family problem so we would not know much about the details or whatsoever. She never showed any signs of any problems at home or anything like that. We cannot comment as to why it happened,” he said.

A search for her killer, who ran off after the incident, was under way late yesterday by San Fernando police officers and other armed forces.

Phillip’s mother Joanne Sylvester who visited the scene of her child’s death said Phillip was employed as an attendant at Playdium.

She said her daughter left her home in “good spirits”.

Sylvester said her daughter’s killer “was always accusing her of things.”

Phillp’s stepfather who only identified himself as David said, “She done dead already, whatever she did in her life let it stay there.”

The latest killing has pushed the murder toll to 347, according to an Express tally.
