T&T police suspect hit on retired lawman

(Trinidad Guardian) His killing has left relatives shaken and scores of friends in the law enforcement fraternity stupefied. Ace crimefighter Cecil Carrington, a faithful servant to the Police Service for some 40 years, died seeing the face of his killer. Investigators were working on the theory that Carrington, 68, opened the door of his establishment on the Bay in Manzanilla—for a man he knew and met his death. He was found in a pool of blood with a bullet wound to the neck and stomach in what police believe was a well-orchestrated “hit.” Carrington was the owner of two licensed firearms. One—a revolver—was discovered missing after his murder.

The other weapon he owned, police said, was a shotgun. Officers added that a quantity of cash was also stolen from him. Close friend, Assistant Police Commis-sioner (ACP) in charge of Community Relations Margaret Sampson-Brown, who immediately went to the scene upon learning of her mentor’s murder, openly wept at the Forensic Science Centre in St James yesterday. Sampson-Brown was among numerous police officers who rushed to Manzanilla.

She said around 12.30 am on Thursday, shots were heard coming from Carrington’s businessplace.
