Charged with damage to ex-husband’s car, woman blames years of abuse

A woman, charged with damaging her ex-husband’s car, yesterday told a court that her actions were prompted by years of abuse.

Denise Munroe appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on the charge of malicious damage to property. It was alleged that Munroe, on January 23, damaged the windscreen and back windows of a vehicle belonging to her ex-husband, Kwame Damon.

She stated that during their marriage, Damon abused her and it was frustration that led her to such drastic measures. “They telling me I mad and I am not mad,” the woman said, pleading her case.

Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry placed Munroe on bail in the sum of $50,000 and ordered a probation report for February 18.
