Indian University confers President Jagdeo with Doctor of Literature

President Bharrat Jagdeo was today conferred with the Doctor of Literature by the Padmashree Dr D Y Patil University in Mumbai, India at its Annual Convocation ceremony, the Government Information Agency said.

President Jagdeo, in accepting the award alluded to the global trends of greater access to information which will change the demand for educational services and technical expertise, GINA reported.

He also challenged the more than 1000 graduands to continue to excel in their respective disciplines but also to understand the linkages between the various disciplines and the environment and how the global environment and the unprecedented changes taking place will influence every sector and every academic discipline.

The contribution by the D.Y Patil Group towards improving the education sector in India was also commended.

There were two other recipients. GINA said that Professor M.S Swaminathan in his presentation lauded the effort by the University to recognize President Jagdeo and the contribution Guyana has been making towards sustainable forest management.

The other recipient was Dr. Makarand Jawadekar, former executive of Pfizer global research and development who received a Doctor of Science.
The Padmashree Dr. D.Y Patil University is part of the D.Y Patil Group, one of the largest groups in India in the area of private education.
