Suspect in Black Water stabbing death flees to remote location – police

The suspect in last Friday’s stabbing of businessman, Conrad Semple at Black Water Backdam, Konawaruk has fled to a remote location which is difficult to access, Divisional Commander David Ramnarine said yesterday.

According to Assistant Commissioner Ramnarine, a team of ranks travelled to the area from the city and returned on Sunday night. He explained that while at the scene, investigators managed to collect several statements but “unfortunately need to do some more pain-staking work”.

He added that according to the information the ranks received the suspect has fled to another remote area where the terrain is rough and is difficult to access.

Ramnarine speaking directly on the circumstances of Semple’s killing said that on the day of the incident the deceased played the role of a Good Samaritan and in the process he met his death.

Meanwhile a post-mortem examination conducted on his remains yesterday revealed that he died as a result of a stab wound to the kidney and punctured large instestines.

According to the reports reaching Stabroek News, Semple who is originally from Princes Street, Georgetown was rushed to the Mahdia Hospital with a knife sticking out of his back. He was conscious but the medical personnel at the health institution were unable to remove it.

A resident had told this newspaper that the man was stabbed at a mining camp in the Black Water Backdam.

Arrangements were immediately made to have the man air dashed to the city for further medical attention. However, heavy fogging delayed the departure of the flight from the mining community.

The flight carrying Semple arrived at the Ogle Airport shortly before 4 pm but he died before he could arrive at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

An upset relative had said that they had been trying for some time to get an ambulance to go and collect the wounded man from Ogle.

The ambulance that was apparently sent for Semple had to divert and go somewhere else.
