The police say they are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 1.15 am today at Anna Catherina, WCD, during which Balram Teekaram, 43 years, and his son Rajendra Teekaram, 17 years, were attacked and robbed of a silver chain, cell phone and ipod by three men, two of whom were armed with handguns.
Police say that investigations revealed that Balram Teekaram was aroused by noise in his home and upon checking he was confronted by the perpetrators who held him at gunpoint and demanded cash and jewellery. The men also held up Rajendra Teekaram after which they ransacked the house and took away the articles and escaped. According to a police release, during the incident the two victims were beaten about their bodies with the firearms.
The father and son were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital for medical treatment. Balram Teekaram was admitted while Rajendra Teekaram was treated and sent away.
