The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the Charlestown murders of Cedrick Blackman and Ann Cham-A-Koon with which William Light has been charged commenced yesterday before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Bertel Sandra Joshua, stepdaughter of Blackman and Rabia Shakoor, daughter of Ann Cham-A-Koon, were the two witnesses who took the stand and gave evidence after being called by the prosecution.

After each witness testified, the magistrate asked Light who stood in the dock of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court whether he wanted to question the witnesses to challenge what they had related to the court. Light declined.

The PI continues today.

Light, a construction worker formerly of Stevedore Housing Scheme, is accused of the October 26 slaying of Blackman and Cham-A-Koon at Charlestown, Georgetown.

The accused is alleged to have hacked the two to death after going on a cutlass-wielding rampage that also caused injuries to Shawn DeSouza and Radesh Persaud.

The accused remains imprisoned.
