Pastor accused of receiving stolen car granted $300,000 bail

A pastor accused of receiving a stolen car that  was taken in a gunpoint hold-up was on Monday admitted to bail in the sum of $300,000 by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Kurt Holder, 34, is that between October 16 and December 31, 2009, he received one Toyota Corolla NZE valued $3M, property of Sinclair Mohabir, knowing same to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
The accused was not required to plead to the charge of receiving a stolen article when it was read to him.

Police Corporal Venetta Pindar in presenting the prosecution’s facts said that the virtual complainant was held at gunpoint by two men and relieved of the vehicle.

The corporal said that on June 16, police acting on information received went to the defendant’s Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home where the engine and other parts of the car were found.

Holder was subsequently arrested and charged.

Attorney-at-law George Thomas in an application for his client to be admitted to reasonable bail said that Holder lives at Lot 35 Melanie Damishana, ECD with his minor child.

The matter was transferred to the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court for July  27.
