Programme to mark 47th anniversary of Son Chapman tragedy

The Commemoration Committee for the Son Chapman tragedy is to hold  a remembrance programme today to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the bombing of the Son Chapman vessel which caused 43  persons from Linden to lose their lives, a press release from the PNCR said.

The  activity which will take place at Hurudaia, Upper Demerara River where the tragedy took place  is to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice made by those who lost their lives in this tragedy, the release stated.

A brief wreath-laying ceremony will be held at 08:00 hrs  on the west bank of the river where two of the murdered victims were buried.

Ten Regional Chairman   Mortimer Mingo, executives of the PNCR, representatives of other organisations and other residents from Georgetown, Linden, and other parts of Guyana will be participating in the programme, the release added.
