Two employees of Reunion Manganese Incorporated  were this morning killed and at least two others injured after the truck they were in overturned at Main Four Road on the outskirts of Matthew’s Ridge, North West District.

The deceased have since been identified as Carlos Hinds, 22, of Ogle and Hezron Abrams of Moruca.

The two persons who were injured are currently at the GPH awaiting X-Ray examinations. Rajiv Dhanraj, 19, has sustained injuries to his face, upper and lower ribs, left leg and arms, while Michael Hinds, 24, suffered head injuries. Dhanraj was in the back of the truck, while Hinds was seated in front. According to the two, they along with Hinds, Abrams and the driver of the truck were transporting sand from Port Kaituma to the company at Matthews Ridge. Dhanraj said that the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and it toppled. He also stated that the truck was not speeding.

The driver of the truck is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

When this newspaper contacted the Canadian mining company’s headquarters, an official refused to divulge information stressing that a press release will be dispatched to the media sometime this afternoon.

Last month four persons including a father and son were killed instantly at Matthew Ridge’s after the lumber truck they were travelling in turned over and landed in a ravine.

On June 26 Fabian and Trevor Abrams of Matthew’s Ridge and Deon Baptiste of Port Kaituma, North West District were pinned by the logs and rescuers were unable to reach them in time.

The accident occurred at Papaya Turn, called ‘Hill Seven,’ around 5pm.
