‘Trini’ wanted over Industry businessman’s murder

Police yesterday issued a wanted bulletin for a Festival City, North Ruimveldt man, in connection with the May 21 murder of East Coast Demerara businessman, Mark Kandhai.

According to a police bulletin, Wayne Duncan, called ‘Trini,’ is wanted for questioning in relation to murder. The bulletin did not state which murder but Police Public Relations Officer Ivelaw Whittaker said that Duncan was wanted for the murder of Kandhai.

Anyone with information that may lead to his arrest is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 226-1326, 225-2227-, 225-8196, 225-6411, 911 or the nearest police station. All information will be treated with strict confidence.

Mark Kandhai

At around 2.30 am, Kandhai, 32, was attending to a customer when he was shot dead. His assailant was a lone gunman, who drew his gun from the open gate at the front of the store. The first bullet missed Kandhai and grazed a nearby sofa. The gunman fired again at a frightened Kandhai, who by this time was lying low on floor, in an apparent bid to escape. Two bullets were discharged in his direction, with one hitting him in the face. After ensuring the job had been completed, the gunman jumped into a waiting car. The badly-wounded Kandhai was rushed to Georgetown Hospital, where he died minutes after arrival. Surveillance cameras in the shop captured the entire episode but the shooter had his cap pulled down over his face. Crime Chief Seelall Persaud had told this newspaper in a recent interview that a file was prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. That file was returned, he said, with instructions for further investigations to be conducted.
