Photo to be attached to provisional driver’s licence

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) says in keeping with amendments made to the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act from today photographs will now be affixed to provisional driver’s licences.

In a press release the GRA said the amendments were made to Regulation No. 12 of 2008 and will be effective from October 1, 2011.

A provisional licence can be purchased from $1,000 at the Licence Revenue Office and at other certifying offices in various regions. When applying for a provisional licence the public is advised that the following documents are required: three passport-sized photographs; pass letter (Learner’s Theoretical Programme) from Certifying Officer of the Guyana Police Force; official identification or passport; taxpayer identification number and completed application form for provisional driver’s licence. Provisional licences are generally issued to persons ages 16 and older for motor cycles and 17 years or older for motor vehicles.

In accordance with Section 26 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, once issued, a provisional licence is only valid for the period indicated on the licence. When the licence expires, the applicant is required to follow the same procedures to buy a new provisional licence.
