Diwali Utsav for national stadium tomorrow

The National Stadium is expected to come alive tomorrow when local singers Mohan Nandu and Sookrane Boodhoo join their overseas counterparts on stage for the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s Diwali Utsav.

According to a Dharmic Sabha press release, Indar Kanhai and his sister Nandanie Kanhai with Andy Singh and the Trisul Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago will perform along with local singers Rekha Singh and Suchitra Rampersaud. “Indar Kanhai who came once is extremely popular with the crowd and he is undisputedly a dynamic artiste,” the release noted.

A dance troupe from the Dharmic Nritya Sangh will also perform.
The Sabha said the event is not just about singing; it will embody characteristics peculiar to Diwali Nagar (village), including festive and intricately decorated and illuminated structures placed around the grounds. The public is also invited to participate in Rangoli making (coloured rice decorations).

Diwali items, Indian clothing and jewellery will also be on sale. Patrons can also participate in mehendi designs; face painting for children, circle dancing and games. Seven curry, samosas, pholourie and other treats will also be on sale.

Tickets cost $1,000 and are available at the Murti Shop, WCD, M&M Snacketee, EBD, R Gossai’s, EBD, Bhagwan’s on Water Street, Red Mango on Robb Street and at the Dharmic Kendra. Admission is free for children under 10 and no alcohol will be allowed.
