Roger Mayers is champion driver

Barbadian Roger Mayers emerged with the driver’s champion title today at the conclusion of the final leg of the GT&T/Seaboard Marine Caribbean Race of Champions at the South Dakota circuit after leader David Summerbell failed to take to the field due to mechanical problems with his car.

Mayers, driving his Ford Focus, won all three of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) races and ended on 50 points while Jamaica’s Summerbell finished second with the 46 points he came in with after the second round of competition in Barbados.

Seventy-year-old Doug Maloney of Barbados finished third in the drivers’ championship race on 42 points.

As it relates to the championship country, going into today’s final leg, Barbados had an unassailable 38-point lead on 102 over Jamaica on 64. Guyana was in the cellar position on 27 points.
