Man had ganja in his anus – court hears

A father of two who allegedly had 11.5 grams of cannabis in his anus for the purpose of trafficking was yesterday placed on $50,000 bail after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine–Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The accused Delon Anthony of Lot 58 Forshaw Street, Queenstown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on November 10 at Georgetown he had the narcotics in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

In presenting the facts to the court, Prosecutor Lionel Harvey stated that on the day in question police were conducting an exercise when the defendant was stopped and searched.  As a result, leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were discovered on his person.

After stating the facts the prosecution had no objection to bail and the matter was adjourned until January 4, 2012. The magistrate, however, ordered the prosecution to launch an investigation as to why the accused was kept in custody for over 72 hours.
