GECOM says integrity of ballot boxes intact

The Guyana Elections Commission today said that the integrity of ballot boxes which are stored at Coldingen on the East Coast remains intact.

The statement came following a release from the PPP/C yesterday afternoon alleging that three containers with ballot boxes had been breached.

Neither the PPP/C nor the police had provided any details on this last evening.

In its statement today, GECOM said “The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) hereby states unequivocally that the integrity of the contents of the Ballot Boxes which are stored in the metal containers at the GECOM complex at Coldingen, East Coast Demerara, remains intact.

“Relative to this issue, it is essential that the Commission inform that following the just concluded 2011 General and Regional Elections, the metal containers in which the Ballot Boxes and other electoral equipment and material are stored, were returned to GECOM locations between December 1 and 2, 2011. The Storage areas are GECOM Headquarters at High and Cowan Streets, Kingston, Georgetown and the Coldingen Complex, East Coast Demerara.”
