Wide disparity in bids to supply hospital food

Five companies on Tuesday submitted bids to supply the Georgetown Public Hospital with dietary supplies with one company bidding a whopping 150M more than the lowest bidder.

The disparity in bids was observed when the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board  opened tenders submitted at its office located in the Ministry of Finance building  Urquhart and Main Streets,   Georgetown.

Bidding went as follows H Dhanraj Woodworking Establishment $191, 067,006 while Loric Persaud’s bid was $44, 095,306 and Guynaz Grocery $84, 204,024. The other two bidders were Ishmael Mohammed $93, 307,039 and General Distributors $57, 778,713 respectively.

Meanwhile only one company submitted a tender to procure a 32-seater bus for the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development’s solid waste management programme.  Associated Industries Ltd submitted a bid for $13.8M. The engineer’s estimate for the cost of the bus was given as US$55,000 (around $11.1M).
