Ms Hamilton should be reinstated

Dear Editor,

As an ex-member of the army, I always remember that safety and security is the business of every citizen of Guyana, and I don’t think that anyone in their right senses is going to instruct a magistrate to travel in a speedboat to conduct state business in the interior (Bartica), an area where innocent citizens lost their lives in a massacre. We must bear in main that a magistrate is under oath and it is her bounden duty to jail, bail or free someone who has violated the law of the country, so a high sense of security should have been taken into consideration.

I am not accusing anyone of not having any form of security training or knowledge, but in all fairness and professionalism, I am calling on the relevant authorities to maintain professional courtesy and re-instate Magistrate Hamilton.

She needs a chance to defend her integrity because she is under oath and representing the law of this country.

Yours faithfully,
Patrick A Roberts
