This year’s disappointing Bartica Regatta had no rules or regulations

Dear Editor,

It is with deep concern I write this letter on behalf of the residents of Bartica at the way the power boat races went on at the regatta.

On Easter Sunday thousands of visitors, spectators flocked the regatta site to see the new foreign and local boats compete.  It was disappointing, only four races came off on Easter Sunday.

The foreign race boats did not compete because the pilots were informed that these foreign boats were too fast for the race entered so only the local boats took part.

To my knowledge I am qualified to make decisions on boats and horsepower for the races entered. I was not asked nor given a letter to be a part of the Bartica 2011 power boat events because I am the type of person who calls a spade a spade.

However, next year there will be a new committee comprising of businesspersons in Bartica and the Ministry of Sports will be a part of the regatta.  A regatta has rules and regulations and goes by the book. This year’s Regatta 2011 had none, no rules, no nothing. Lake Mainstay has proper rules and regulations that’s why the racers and spectators prefer Lake Mainstay Regatta power boat racing.

Yours faithfully,
Winston B  Miller Snr
