I should like to compliment SN on the editorial `Reappraising history in a digital world’ in your edition of 2011-06-18.
The Parliament Office has long understood the importance of the use of information technology to enhance its engagement with the public but in the absence of the full range of resources we have been exploring various possibilities.
On Friday last I announced in the National Assembly that the National Assembly has established a Facebook Page which can be accessed at “Parliament of Guyana.” Unfortunately the press did not find it possible to convey this information to the public. I am seeking the indulgence of your letter pages to do so.
Without any substantial cost we will now be able to advise the public of ongoing developments in the National Assembly on a daily basis and members will be able to place their contributions in debates for public consumption. Of great importance is the possibility of engaging the public.
We hope shortly to establish a Twitter account and, at a later date, a blog which will open up greater possibilities for taking the work of the National Assembly to the public and giving greater opportunities to the public to make their views known.
