Parents should teach children to respect authority

Dear Editor,

I refer to Mr Karran Persaud’s letter enquiring ‘Why are schoolchildren not allowed to go out in the lunch hour?’ (SN, September 6). This is one of the reasons why there is a total breakdown in our society today.  Whether we are children, students, parents, workers, etc, we are always questioning authority or the policy of an organization or institution.

We as parents need to teach our children to respect authority.  If it is the policy of Berbice High School to restrict students from leaving the compound at lunch time, then why should anyone question that ruling? Children should be taught to follow and respect rules instead of questioning them.

Yours faithfully,
