Minimum pension was paid based on contributions, earnings, etc

Dear Editor,

In response to the letter ‘NIS miscalculated pension, refuses to address matter,’ which was published in the Stabroek News dated Friday, August 19, 2011, please see the following response:

Mr Nandalal Bisnauth NIS Number B-1724624 was paid a minimum pension based on 1,179 contributions.

Although the insured person made an extra 429 contributions his earnings were not enough to qualify him for a higher pension.

Additionally, the pensioner only attained age 60 years in 2011, and he last contributed to the Scheme in 1998; twelve years ago.  This is a factor that was taken into consideration.

Finally, please note that a copy of the calculation of Mr Bisnauth’s pension will be sent to him. He can also feel free to contact the Publicity and Public Relations Unit for further clarity on this issue.

Yours faithfully,
