What Guyanese are witnessing now is that time changes people. The assassination of Dr Walter Rodney under the Burnham regime has been put aside, and now both Clive Thomas and Rupert Roopnaraine are interested in power, even if it means joining the PNC, which was the biggest enemy of the Working People’s Alliance under Rodney.
The WPA under Walter Rodney waged one of the biggest struggles to unseat the PNC and Burnham from government. During that struggle some WPA members were killed, while many others were beaten, jailed and lost their jobs. Dr Rodney was fighting the oppressive regime for the return of democracy, free and fair elections and banned foodstuff, and against discrimination, party paramountcy and the use of excessive force against political opponents of the PNC. Walter Rodney must be turning in his grave to see some of his closest associates joining the ranks of the PNC that include David Granger.
Only time will tell whether Drs Clive Thomas and Rupert Roopnaraine are correct to join up with the PNC to unseat the PPP/C government.
