Sewage overflow in Alberttown

Dear Editor,
It has been three weeks now since a call was made to GWI about overflowing sewage in Fourth Street, Alberttown, coming up through the gully. The day we called we were given a reference number and were told that they would come within three working days. That was around  September 6, 2011. September is almost at an end and no services have been rendered. We called several times after the initial day. They have been “coming” since then.

This is the service that citizens, paying citizens, get. We are understanding people, but everyone has things to do. The last call made was on September, 22, 2011; the woman at GWI who answered said that the team was scheduled to come that same day, but still no one came. Someone had to stay at home that day, someone who originally had somewhere to go. This is unfair treatment. Even if they know that nothing can be done, why say they are coming?

At this moment the gully is still overflowing; we are forced to not flush the toilet more than twice a day irrespective of use since it compounds the problem. The conditions are hazardous – not only smelly but very insanitary and unhealthy.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)
