In your article ‘PPP/C still to decide on November presidential debate‘ (Saturday, October 8, 2011) it is stated that “the only presidential debate in Guyana was held for the 1992 elections between the late former President Desmond Hoyte and then opposition leader Dr Cheddi Jagan.”
That is not correct. There was a debate in the 2001 elections at the Hotel Tower Limited in which Messrs Desmond Hoyte, Asgar Ally, Paul Hardy, Ravi Dev and Rupert Roopnaraine participated. Mr Hugh Cholmondeley was the consultant while I moderated.
Mr Jagdeo chose not to participate in that debate.
