Bishop Edghill has broken code agreed to by Ministers of the Church

Dear Editor,

“I want to say to all who are gathered here and Guyana as a whole, I believe if Jesus Christ who I serve was in Guyana and he had to vote, he would have voted for the PPP/C” – Bishop Juan A Edghill speaking on the evening of Sunday, October 23 at Lusignan, East Coast.

Now I speak as an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ and not just as an observer. I would like to bring to the attention of the Church in Guyana and the Guyanese people, the background to the utterance of such statement.

Regardless of what logic is used to justify this statement it was inappropriate and unethical.

The background was Saturday, October 22, at the Winners Cathedral on D‘Urban Street, where a gathering of Leaders and Ministers met at 10.00 hrs to discuss and agree on certain principles relating to how we, as Ministers should conduct ourselves during the election period, and to agree on a code of ethics.

Many things were said, but let me remind the Men of God present that the emphasis on ‘balance’ (avoiding extremism) and a ‘sound Biblical culture’ (statements on politics should be Bible based) was to be embraced and applied when addressing political issues.

The Bishop agreed and all present did likewise, yet within 28 hours of our meeting this guiding principle (code) was broken.

I do not need to tell the Bishop who Jesus the Christ is; he should know that He is not subjective but objective; He is not mighty but Almighty God; He is not below but above; He is not dead but is alive; He is not absent but present in Guyana.

To say that Jesus would vote for a political party is tantamount to declaring, “Thus saith the Lord.” And to bring Jesus the Christ into partisan politics is nothing short of being blasphemous and irreverent.

Therefore, beloved Bishop Juan A Edghill should turn now, do what is biblically correct and repent before it‘s too late.

Remember I too am subject to like passion and could fall into error. He has erred and there should be no further debate on this issue; it was done in full view of the public and I expect him to do the just thing and move on with his ministry. I have forgiven him.  And Jesus the Christ has pardoned him. He should accept it and be free from a guilty conscience.

The Church that meets at Maranatha Ministries International on Quamina Street continues to pray for him. And wish him every success in his pursuits.

Yours faithfully,
Apostle Vanrick Beresford
(Senior Pastor)
