SN is attempting to misinform or cannot estimate crowd sizes

Dear Editor,

I appreciate the fact that you published my letter in your Wednesday, October 26, 2011 edition. However, I cannot ignore your comment attached in which you reiterated that only several hundreds attended the PPP/C Rally at Lusignan on Sunday, October 23. It is clear that your newspaper’s ability to estimate crowds vastly differs from that of other media entities, including those that are not sympathetic to the government, and from those who attended.

Your right to such a position is guaranteed since Guyana is now a democracy in which freedom of expression is practised unhindered. Given your seemingly immovable stance, I can only conclude that by publishing inaccurate information with regards to the attendance at the said rally, your newspaper is either deliberately and vulgarly attempting to misinform or is exhibiting, rather extravagantly, its deficiency in crowd estimation.

Editor, it is unfortunate that you have resorted to defend your initial inaccuracy which is the genesis of our exchange. Such fervent defence to establish your misinformation as fact, further seems to confirm the belief that your newspaper is passionate in its support for the opposition, especially the AFC. Only in an established democracy is such a scenario possible.

Finally, it is pellucid that the PPP/C will not benefit from fair and unbiased reporting by the Stabroek News. Given your newspaper’s established position, this is not surprising. Again, another scenario that is only possible in a democracy.

Yours faithfully,
Neaz Subhan
