Lincoln Lewis’s letter expressing justifiable reservations relating to government’s recent acquisition of water cannon is timely and a serious matter. With the government’s proclivities, it is easy to see this equipment being used as a repressive tool.
However, beyond this, I wish to remind citizens that before I was unceremoniously thrown off the GWI Board, for the time I sat on the board, I pleaded for a resolution of the matter with respect to the management of our fire hydrants.
I raised this important matter with the Minister on several occasions, but no one listened. I believe no one cares. To this day, this government has failed to provide the appropriate resources, and give some agency the responsibility for water hydrants in the city and beyond. Why, only god knows, but it demonstrates a stubborn arrogance.
Georgetown and its environs have dotted around the city useless water hydrants, but a so-called caring government buys water cannon with their propaganda machine rolling as usual. How can this government be angry and cuss the media, when, by this and other means, their folly, crassness, ineptitude and corruption are exposed.
