Jesus name not on the voters’ roll

“Prayer works,” quipped an East Coast pastor the other day. “It works, my children! It works! In true evangelical fashion the pastor was citing “a miracle” in the coincidence between Bishop Juan Edgill’s attempt at a Lusignan PPP/C meeting to place Jesus Christ on the local electoral roll and the storm which came along just a few days later and literally blew away some of the PPP’s high-priced billboards with Donald Ramotar’s face on them.

The PPP called it “sabotage” and went to the Elections Commission with a long face. The Pastor said that God is in charge and that that that is just the sort of thing that is likely to happen when you drag Jesus Christ into politics. These may not be the days of frequent divine intervention but ever so often God puts in an appearance just to make the point that there are limits to what people can say and get away with.

Did the Bishop go too far? Certainly, the thousands of Baptists and Revivalists across the country think he did. The prevailing view appears to be that the Bishop’s standing with the Creator does not by any means authorize him to suggest that the Son of God would simply put in an appearance on November 28, cast a ballot for the PPP/C then disappear again. “My Kingdom is no part of this world!” Remember that passage of scripture, Bishop?

Mr. Edghill said he was taken out of context though it seems more as though he spoke out of turn. Could  he not have considered something like a prayer for a PPP/C victory. Not the Bishop! That is not his style. He desired more direct divine intervention. And now that he has gone and did what he has done a mighty wind has risen up and blown away Donald’s $300,000 posters and for all his trouble you can bet that Jesus Christ will keep his distance from the Republic on Polling Day, anyway.
