‘The team that makes the least mistakes will triumph’

Kashif and Shanghai Final…

– Dover

And then there were two. Tonight the 21st edition of the Kashif and Shanghai football tournament  will wrap up with what is expected to be one of the most intriguing matches of the competition.

The tournament kicked off on December 12 with 16 teams competing and is now down to the final two teams Alpha United and Pele, battling for the top prize of two million dollars and a bonus prize of football kits valued at five million dollars.
Both teams are confident of victory and that they will  cart off the seven million-dollar prize.
The runner up team will receive one million dollars, third placed $500,000 and fourth place $250,000.
Alpha United coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover told Stabroek Sport, “No doubt this will be a tough game because it’s two top teams but the team that makes the least amount of mistakes will triumph.”

Dover added that Alpha was ready to compete and he thinks it will be an interesting match because these are the teams to beat.
Alpha emerged victorious against Bakewell Topp XX in a tough semifinal that ended on penalty kicks. Dover  stated that he thought it was a good match since Topp XX came well organized and Alpha did not maintain the discipline as they did in the first two matches where they comfortably won.

He said “fitness was not the factor that carried the game through to extra time

and penalties because as we saw Alpha United battles to the end, Topp XX just came more prepared.” Pele’s coach Gordon ‘Ultimate Warrior’ Braithwaite said fans will get what they are looking for in this match because it’s two very good teams and they will be playing to the end.

“I’m proud of my team and even though people think they are not playing as they should and be defeating teams by 10-odd goals, that is not so. My team is playing according to the opponents and with every game they are getting better,” Braithwaite declared.

“This will be the best opposition we face. We threw away many of the opportunities to score in

the previous games because I think the urgency to score wasn’t there  but if we expect to win this game we will have to take those same opportunities we create,” the former national player added.

Prior to this match up Bakewell Topp XX will meet Sunburst Camptown in the third place showdown from 6:00pm and the Under-20 Golden Jaguars squad meets Riddim Squad in a supporting match from 4pm.
