New DCB executive meets with Anthony

The executive committee of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) met with Sport Minister Dr. Frank Anthony yesterday at the Main Street office to outline plans for the next two years of the recently-elected body.

Some of the issues that were discussed ranged from the rehabilitation and development of cricket facilities in both rural and urban areas of Demerara to the development of a structured schools cricket programme, inclusive of training new coaches and upgrading others. The meeting also focussed on the greater utilisation of existing facilities such as the Guyana National Stadium. The use of this facility will cater for the development of cricketers both physically and mentally.

There were also talks on the implementation of a viable system to encourage cricketers to remain at home to participate in local cricket.
Meanwhile, the minister took the opportunity to challenge the executive to restore the game to its former glory, and to regain the confidence of the fans in the administration of cricket.

In responding to Anthony’s charge, DCB president Bissoondyal Singh and members of the executive assured him of their commitment to meet these challenges successfully.

And the minister pledged to offer all necessary assistance to the DCB in the furtherance of its objectives.
