Yassin lashes out at poor attendance, late start at AAG awards

President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA)  K. A Juman  Yassin was apparently in a no-nonsense mood Saturday night.

Delivering one of two  key addresses at the  Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) Annual Awards ceremony held at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) building on Thomas Lands, Yassin expressed his disgust at the non attendance of some members of the athletics fraternity and also at the late start. He did, though, compliment the AAG on a successful 2010 and delivered the good news that Commonwealth Games 400m silver medal winner Aliann Pompey had indicated to him via email, that she would be coming home for the national sports awards. Yassin also threw out a challenge to Guyana’s male athletes pointing out that women athletes were outshining them.

He indicated that the GOA was willing to assist in the development of the athletes and to help them qualify for games such as the Pan American and Youth Olympics, both of which are scheduled to be held this year.
