Guyana hunting outright win against B/dos

Guyana, after claiming first innings points against Barbados, were pressing for an outright win at the end of the third day of their West Indies Cricket Board, Regional four day encounter at the Providence National Stadium yesterday.

At the close of play Guyana, in their second innings were 90-4 an overall lead of 218 runs going into today’s final day.
When play resumed yesterday the Guyanese quickly wrapped up the final five Barbadian wickets in the morning session after the Bajans resumed on their r overnight score of 88 – 6.

They were eventually bowled out for 202 in 84.5 overs.
Guyana began their second innings with a lead of 128 and piled on just 90 runs in the final two sessions of the day.
The home team is sitting pretty with Vishual Singh (9) and Royston Crandon (15).
Guyana’s second innings began just after the lunch and Rajindra Chandrika lost his opening partner Assad Fudadin, who batted so well in the first innings, for just 11.

Guyana went to tea on 33 – 1, a lead of 161.
Chandrika and Leon Johnson put on 38 runs for the second wicket before Johnson was caught behind by substitute wicketkeeper Dale Richards for 21.

Barbados then claimed two quick wickets which worked in their favour to slow down the Guyanese scoring as Chandrika (24) and Gajanand Singh (02) were removed in the space of four runs to take the score to 65 – 4.

Crandon and Singh batted quite cautiously to get Guyana to 90 – 4 at stumps.
Earlier, leg spinner Davendra Bishoo celebrated his call up to the West Indies World Cup team by bagging four wickets.

But Bishoo’s fellow spin twin Versammy Permaul, upstaged the newest West Indies addition by grabbing the bigger haul of wickets.

Permaul picked up 6-60 and Bishoo supported with 4-61 as all 10 wickets fell to the two spinners.
Shane Dowrich put up some resistance to get Barbados closer to Guyana’s first innings total.

When play began Kraigg Brathwaite was the first to go when he was trapped lbw by Permaul then Royston Chase was bowled by Bishoo at the other end to leave  Barbados 104 – 7.  Brathwaite added three runs to his overnight score of 31 while Chase added only added seven to his overnight score of four.

However, Dowrich and Ryan Layne put on a 75-run partnership which ended when Permaul finally removed Layne LBW for 20.

Dowrich tried to accelerate the scoring but Fidel Edwards was lbw to Permaul and Dowrich was the last man to be dismissed when he was bowled by Permaul for 76.
