Later date mooted for Inter-Guiana Games in Suriname

The Inter-Guiana Games which were scheduled for Suriname from May 12-15 might be postponed to a later date.

The new development comes in the wake of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams which will be held around the same time as the games, according to Sports Director Neil Kumar in a telephone interview with Stabroek Sport.

“We are trying to change the dates because of the exams around that time, the review meeting which was to be held in December was held until February, it hasn’t been postponed as yet but we’re in the process of talking to the other two countries,” Kumar stated.

The uncertainty about the dates has also caused the developmental meet which was scheduled for Linden two weeks ago, but postponed because of rain, to be brought forward to March 6 in place of the Inter- Guiana Games trials which will now be held on March 20 at the Enmore Community Centre Ground, according to a press release from the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG).

Meanwhile the developmental meet on Sunday will run off from 10:30 hrs at the McKenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden.

The Inter-Guiana Games is sponsored by the National Sports Commission (NSC) but the  athletes are selected based on the trials held by the AAG.

It is now hoped there will be more convenient  dates for the Games so the AAG  can select their best team and not have to worry about athletes withdrawing due to exams.

Guyana will need its best team since the Inter-Guiana Track and Field Championships have been divided into the Male Track and Field Championships which Guyana won last year and the Female Track and Field Championships which Guyana lost and will be looking to reclaim its dominance.
