Defending champs beaten as ‘Screw’ Richmond Football opens

Defending Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Foundation Annual Secondary Schools Football champions Wisburg Secondary suffered a humiliating 0-3 defeat to New Silver City while Christianburg/Wismar hammered Marcia Craig’s Educational Institute 6-0, at the Bayroc Community Centre ground in Linden when the competition got underway on Tuesday.

Goals from Akeem Green (5th), Mortimer Wills (39th) and Quincy Blackman (57th) led New Silver City to victory while in the opening encounter Marley Davidson and Jermaine Batson recorded hat tricks.

Davidson netted in the 9th, 18th and 21st minutes while Batson scored in the
27th, 38th and 59th minutes.

Captains of the participating eight schools pose with representatives of the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Foundation and donor James ‘Gads’ Dennis on Tuesday at the Bayroc Community Centre ground.

The competition will continue today with School of Excellence opposing Harmony Secondary School and Linden Foundation Secondary School taking on Mackenzie High School.Richmond was a versatile sportsman who participated in many disciplines including football.

Meanwhile, Winston Francis and Sheneri Dennis, relatives of James ‘Gads’ Dennis, a Guyanese residing in Canada made a presentation of eight balls to each of the schools on his behalf.
