The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will most likely send six athletes along with two officials to the 40th edition of the Junior Carifta Games to be held in Jamaica this month end.

The athletes that will most likely make up the composition of the team for the April 23-25 games are under 17 800 and 1500 metres champion Malcolm Walcott, the upcoming Melissa Byass, Under 20 defending 800 metres Carifta Games champion Jevina Straker, 100 and 200 metres Junior Champion Chavez Ageday, Junior 400 metres champion Stefon James and distance ace Nathaniel Giddings.

The two officials are likely to be Pamela Phillips and Juliann Edmonds, Coach of the Running Brave Athletic Club.

Colin Boyce, AAG president yesterday questioned about the criteria for selection said that the AAG could only use the performances at the last championship meet.

“We could have only used that meet as a yard stick for selection,” said the former top sprinter.
“Unfortunately we could not have looked at timings for the selection because of the conditions of the ground, so the selection was based on the performances,” he added.

Boyce stated that the AAG was looking to send the full team to the games once funding goes well.
