T&T confident of lifting Jean Pierre title

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – An upbeat Trinidad and Tobago squad left here yesterday for the Jean Pierre Youth Championship, confident of returning with the title.

“We are going to win. I am thinking positively, I want no negativity,” coach Naomi Babb told the Trinidad Guardian.
T&T will be boosted by four players from last year’s squad which finished fourth, with captain Kalifa McCollin, vice-captain Jameela Mc Carty, Cerise Breton and defender Monica Peters all returning.

McCollin is expected to be a key player for T&T who will be one of the favourites especially with nine-time defending champions Jamaica missing from the tournament this year.

T&T are now eyeing Barbados as their toughest opponents but are keeping a close eye on St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica and St Lucia.

The Trinidadians, who prepared with a series of matches at the Jean Pierre Complex, will open their campaign against St Lucia tomorrow before playing Dominica on Monday.

SQUAD – Kalifa Mc Collin, captain, Jameela Mc Carty, Rodorna Mc Donald, Cerise Breton, Kerleen Merrick, Kurtisha Hoyce, Julianna Julian, Monica Peters, Shenice Gittens, Lennecia Mc Kellar, Aniecia Baptiste.
