GCA/Brainstreet Under-15 tournamentRound three match ends in draw

A solid half century from Khemraj Rupee of the Demerara Cricket Club A Team combined with the disciplined bowling from his teammates were not enough to secure a win over the DCC B Team yesterday in round three of the GCA/Brainstreet Under-15 One-day tournament.

Playing at the Queenstown ground, DDC A won the toss and took first strike, putting together valuable partnerships despite the early destruction of Shemar De Souza. However, Rupee, batting at number four, combined with number five batsman Cleon Mc Ewan to stabilise the innings with a half century partnership.

Eventually the partnership was broken by De Souza, who snared 4-31 (10), dismissing Rupee for an even 50, which included three fours. Mc Ewan fell shortly after, one short of his half century. Subsequently, the A Team batsmen offered little resistance as the next highest score was 18.

The team stumbled to 203 from 54 overs, while De Souza got support from right arm off spinner Xaviee Smith, who had returns of 3-26 (11).

In reply DCC B team lost wickets consistently but in the end they were able to hold on to meet 133-8 from their 46 overs to earn a draw. Ronaldo Renee steered his innings to top score with 27 while Kemal Savoury and Sherwin Bobb chipped in with 22 and 14 respectively.

Mc Ewan returned with the ball to capture 2-4 from his four overs; Michael Shalim took 2-13 (6) while Derron (1-19), Daniel Mohanmar (1-14) and Kwesi Lewis (1-16) had one wicket apiece.
The competition continues on April 27 with five matches.
