Johnson feels three times will be a charm

Skipper of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) team to contest the annual Indian Arrival Cup T20 Cricket Championship Leon Johnson is confident of success despite having lost to the East Berbice Universal DVD Club Titans twice before.

The match, which will be contested at the Albion Community Centre ground, will be seen as an opportunity for Johnson’s team to display the talent in the side, which is a mix of experience and youth. Catching up with Johnson at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) yesterday, he reminded that although his side was beaten twice they are confident that the third time will be the charm.

Further, he stated that the transition from four-day cricket has not been that difficult and the outcome of today’s game can come down to the better performance of either team. He also lauded West Indies T20 player Christopher Barnwell,  suggesting  that he will be an asset, with both bat and ball.

Johnson envisaged that Barnwell, who is the side’s vice captain,  will be hungry to be back in the local mix up and is also confident that he will demonstrate his match-winning abilities like he has done on many occasions. Apart from Barnwell, the GCA side also has Paul Wintz, who played in the Airtel T20 Championships last year in South Africa, one of first division’s prolific players Rawle Browne and left arm pacer and Andre Stoll who recently scored a century in a two day match at the Police Sports Club ground.

The Berbice team will be led  by  Assad Fudadin, who led the Guyana Four Day team in this year’s competition.

Firepower will also be coming from Jonathan Foo, Guyana’s middle order boy wonder in last year’s Caribbean T20 tournament. Fudadin also can choose from, at the top of the order, Richard Ramdeen, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine and Anthony Bramble.

Meanwhile, the other teams are East Coast Carib Jaguars, which will be led by Zaheer Mohammed, and the West Berbice Super Kings that will be led by Krisendat Ramoo.
