Windies drop out-of-form Nash for Edwards

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – West Indies have dropped out-of-form vice-captain Brendan Nash for the second Test against India starting at Kensington Oval here Tuesday.

The 33-year-old left-hander has had a poor run of form of late and has been replaced by Barbadian Kirk Edwards in what is the only change to the 13-man squad.

Nash, appointed as captain Darren Sammy’s deputy last November, has paid the price for his measly returns of 54 runs in his last six Test innings.

He struggled against Pakistan in the recent Test series, producing a highest score of 30 in the second match in St Kitts. The Jamaican also looked way below his best in the first Test against India at Sabina Park this week where he managed just one and nine.
Only in April, Nash lashed a double century against Trinidad and Tobago in the Regional First Class Championships.

Edwards, meanwhile, has played only One-Day Internationals with nine of them spanning the World Cup and the Pakistan and India series.

Nash’s axing means Jamaican Marlon Samuels is likely to play in the second Test. He got a half-century against Pakistan last month in his only Test since his return to international cricket following a two-year ban.
West Indies lost the first Test of the three-match series by 63 runs in Kingston on Thursday.

SQUAD – Darren Sammy (captain), Adrian Barath, Lendl Simmons, Carlton Baugh, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Marlon Samuels, Kirk Edwards, Fidel Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach.
