Enterprise Stars win GSL one-day tournament at Mahaica

Enterprise Stars followed by Rising Stars XI of West Coast Demerara were the top teams in the Guyana Softball League (GSL) one-day tournament last Sunday at Helena, Mahaica.

The day’s event began with Enterprise Stars defeating Rising Stars by five wickets.  Enterprise’s skipper Kavita Yadram notched up 35 not out as her team reached 79-6 in 9.3 overs. In Rising Star’s response Taslema Bacchus scored 15 and Natoya Elexey hit 12 out in a total of 78 all out in 9.1 overs.

The second match saw Rising Stars beating Mahaica Queens 33 runs with Elexey slamming 27 before she was run out in the fifth over attempting a second run. Captain Waheeda Rahaman continued to hit the ball around to gather 25 before she was caught on the long off boundary.  The innings ended on 91-3 in their ten overs. Mahaica Queens were then dismissed for 58 in seven overs with Rajshree Rajwa taking 3-5 runs from two overs. In the third match Enterprise cruised to victory by 30 runs against Mahaica Princesses. Yadram was again amongst the top scorers with an enterprising 37 before being run off a direct hit. Her team made 87-6 in their allotted 10 overs before limiting the Mahaica Princesses to 67 all out in 9.5 overs.Rising Star mauled Mahaica Princesses by 52 runs. Ring Stars XI made 98 with Taslema Bacchus making an unbeaten 38. Mahaica Princesses were then bundled out for 46 runs in nine overs with Elexey taking 2-8 in two overs; Sunita Bissoon (2-6) and Debbie Kuppan (2-13) also added vital support.

Mahaica Queens also made light work of Mahaica Princesses, defeating them by eight runs. Further, Mahaica Queens  produced a good performance against Enterprise Stars, losing by a mere two runs. Mandy Mangroo (14) was involved in a vital partnership of 33 with Michelle La Fleur, who scored 21.
