Linden Schools TT winners receive trophies from Rite Care Pharmacy

The various winners of the recently concluded Rite Care Pharmacy Schools Table Tennis competition in Linden were on Thursday presented with their trophies by proprietor Dennis Muhammed.

Seakou Joseph won the Boys Under-21 singles category of the championships that was held at the Linmine Constabulary Hall and organised by Linden-based ITTF recognized coaches Raynor ‘Copter’ Anderson and Howard James.

The tournament was for players who were under their guidance during a programme that was endorsed by the Linden Table Tennis Committee (LTTC) and the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA).

Joseph defeated Quacy Rice in the final 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9 while Ricardo Anderson stopped Joseph in the Boys Under-18 final 11- 8, 11-8 and 11-7. The Boys Under-15 final which was contested between Travis Francis and Isiah Alphonso went for five sets and ended with Francis triumphing 9-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9 and 14-12.

However, the Boys Under-13 final was decided by a walkover with Troy Stephens winning after Tyric McAllister failed to show for the match.

At the presentation ceremony Muhammed pledged his continued support for the game and said he will always be interested in giving back to sports and was encouraged to sponsor table tennis players in the Mining Town so as to help promote the sport among the youths. Muhammed expressed his gratitude to Anderson and James, who have working on the techniques of the youngsters over a period as part of the coaching programme in Linden to improve the skills of the players of the celluloid game.
