Stage set for Pre-Emancipation Horse Race Meet

All arrangements are in place for today’s Pre-Emancipation Horse Race Meet at the Port Mourant Turf Club from 13:00 hours.

Over 70 horses have been registered for what is being dubbed another day of top notch racing. It is estimated that over $4M will be at stake for the seven-event meet inclusive of cash, trophies and other memorabilia from gate prizes.

Beverage giants Banks DIH Limited, Digicel, Sheriff Racing Stables and Innovative Construction are some of the major sponsors for the event.

The feature event will be the B class with the winner grossing a tantalizing $600,000 plus a trophy for the 1500m race.

Among those entered are Champtress, Night Crescendo, Gullium, Stormy Flame, Grand De Roja, Donut Prince, Marathon Man, Wad a Luck, Miss Orientate, On the Rock with Salt, Mr. Gold Finger and the newly imported Tiger Prospect, running out of the Elcock stable.

The co-feature, three-year-old race, is for horses   born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies.

It will also be over a distance of 1500m with  $400,000.00 and trophy at stake for the winner. Better than Gold, Face the Fire, Gold Plated, Northern Dancer, Celebration Love, Captain Cook and Technology are among some of the top contenders in that Class.

Sabrina Princess, Tropical Passion, Appealing Harvest, Fresh Prospect, Majestic and Top of the Line will compete in the E class race that will see the winner racing away with $300,000 and a trophy. The two-year-old race will be for steeds bred in Guyana and West Indies  over a distance of 1000m. The winner will cop $300,000 and a trophy.

The G class 1200m gallop has a winning prize of $240,000 and trophy and the line-up, led by Top of the Line, also includes Maya, Prado’s Gold, Stormy Lass and Megan’s Choice. There is also $140,000 available for the winner of the I and Lower event which covers a distance of1200m.

That event will see Extra Heat, Apostle, and Princess Renukha in the reckoning for the top prize. Meanwhile, there is a race for the JKL horses that will also run for 1200m. The winning purse will be $120,000 and trophy and among the top contenders are Cash Connection, Infinity T.D Junior and Pinky.

The day’s event will be run under the auspices of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) and therefore owners, groomsmen, and trainers were asked to have their animals properly registered before today. Further, if this requirement is not met horses will not be allowed to participate in the day’s proceedings.

It was also noted that if anyone is found in contravention of any of the rules they will be penalized according to a release from the GHRA.

On the other hand, outstanding individual performers including: Jockeys, trainer and stables will be presented with accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
